Miriam Rube

Miriam Rube Email: mrube@kaplan.edu | Phone: 954.964.6503 A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Ms. Miriam Rube has served in the roles of principal, director of education, and headmaster since 1991. She holds a bachelor's degree in criminal justice/criminology from Ohio State University, as well as a master of science degree from St. Thomas University, where she is currently completing her doctorate in curriculum instruction and instructional leadership. In addition to being a member of several professional organizations, Ms. Rube has served on the Advisory Council of the Harvard Graduate School of Education Principals' Center, the Board for the Association of Independent Schools of Florida (AISF) and the accreditation teams for AISF and the Southern Association for College and Schools (SACS) since 1995. Ms. Rube is committed to offering the highest quality product to her students and this dedication permeates her conversations and interactions with students, parents, coworkers, and community stakeholders.

Alison Cohen

Mrs. Cohen has extensive experience in the private sector from her years working for large corporations such as Digital Equipment Corporation and Intel Corporation. She is enthusiastic about the new challenges and opportunities in the field of education. She especially enjoys analyzing student's backgrounds and helping them find the necessary courses to graduate with their high school diploma.

Samantha Meyer

Samantha Meyer Email: smeyer2@kaplan.edu | Phone: 304.834.1014 Mrs. Samantha Meyer holds a bachelor's degree in Secondary Mathematics Education from West Liberty State College and a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from George Mason University. She has more than nine years of experience teaching various levels of mathematics courses in both traditional and online environments. As an online instructor, Mrs. Meyer hopes to challenge students while helping them develop confidence and enjoyment from their experiences with mathematics. In her free time, Mrs. Meyer enjoys reading, cooking, exercising, and spending time with her family.

Michael Storper

He joined Kaplan College Preparatory School in 2005 as a Teacher's Assistant. Mr. Storper has taught at Pompano Beach Middle School and Miami-Carol Senior High School, where he taught mathematics and served as Mathematics department chairperson along with sponsoring the Math Club. For the past 17 years, he has tutored privately for college and high school courses.

Barbara Wilkins

Barbara Wilkins Email: bwilkins@kaplan.edu | Phone: 573.368.4263 Mrs. Barbara Wilkins holds a BA in History, a MS in Mathematics, and a teaching certificate in Social Studies and Mathematics for the State of Missouri, all earned from Missouri University of Science and Technology, formerly the University of Missouri - Rolla. She has taught for Cuba High School in Cuba, MO, East Central Collge in Union, MO, Drury University in Springfield, MO and Missouri S&T in Rolla, MO. She joined Kaplan Virtual Education during the pilot year of the Missouri Virtual Instruction Program in 2007, and enjoys showing students how the mathematics they are learning is used in real life. In her free time, she enjoys playing computer games, role-playing games, cooking and spending time with her husband and two teenage children.

Jerry Van Keuren

Jerry Van Keuren Email: gvankeuren@kaplan.edu | Phone: 301.621.6287 Mr. Jerry Van Keuren holds a master's degree in Aerospace Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology with a minor in Mathematics. After retiring from the Air Force, he taught middle and high school math courses in Fairfax County, Virginia for over ten years. He also has coached middle school Math Counts teams in regional competitions. Whether teaching in a traditional or online environment, Mr. Van Keuren’s goal is to make math fun and relevant to a student’s everyday life. In his free time, Mr. Van Keuren enjoys sailing, kayaking and visiting his grandchildren in Alaska and Maryland.

Kelli Marie Williams

She spent three years working as a Seismic Engineer for an oil exploration company in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean before becoming a teacher. She spent two years in a brick and mortar school before making the switch to online education. This is her third year teaching online and she loves it. Her favorite part of teaching Math is seeing how the concepts taught in the classroom apply to real life situations. In her spare time Mrs. Williams enjoys doing puzzles, being outdoors, and spending time with her family.

Charles Meehan
Language Arts Department Chair

Charles Meehan Email: cmeehan@kaplan.edu | Phone: 954.964.6582 Mr. Charles Meehan holds a BA in Literature from Rhode Island College and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Miami. Meehan taught developmental writing, composition, literature, and creative writing for many years at Miami-Dade College, where he was also a supervisor at the Writing Center. Mr. Meehan has had poems published in numerous national literary journals. He is passionate about learning, language, and sharing with students the magic of the written word. Mr. Meehan believes that online education allows students to experience a plethora of diverse ideas in the global community.

Bruce Field

Bruce Field Email: bfield@kaplan.edu | Phone: 301.621.6278 After earning a BA in English and American literature from Brandeis University and certification from Millersvill University, Mr. Bruce Field taught language arts and reading in Charlotte-Mecklenburg (NC) and Baltimore County public middle schools. During his many years in education, he has co-sponsored the yearbook club, tutored, become a father, and earned his master's degree in secondary education from Towson University. Long interested in writing creatively, travel and reading, Mr. Bruce Field is excited to be co-sponoring Kaplan's literary magazine and teaching a variety of students.

Iglia Hungerford

She began her career as an editor and freelance reporter working for community newspapers. After discovering her love for the integration of language and visual arts, Mrs. Hungerford spent 15 years working as a graphic designer. She believes language arts holds a strong appeal and looks forward to sharing her love of literature with her online students.

Jessica Rishel

Mrs. Rishel previously taught English Honors at a technical school in Ohio, where she also served as a Literacy Coach. Mrs. Rishel is a teacher consultant with the Northeast Ohio Writing Project, where she seeks to inspire passion for writing in teachers and students alike. She is currently a candidate for National Board Certification and is excited about working with KVE's students.

Jennifer Taylor

Jennifer Taylor Email: jtaylor3@kaplan.edu | Phone: 954.964.5138 Mrs. Jennifer Taylor holds an undergraduate degree in Secondary Science Education and is certified to teach all secondary sciences (Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics). Additionally, she holds a master's degree in Library Science. Mrs. Taylor has six years of experience as an educator, both in online and traditional classrooms. She also has been an online student, which gives her the unique advantage of having experiences on "both sides of the computer." Mrs. Taylor is dedicated to helping her students find success in their online courses.

Tracy Smith

Mrs. Smith has taught in the elementary school, middle school, and online middle school with Broward County Public Schools. She has worked with various special needs children over the years ranging from autism to working with deaf and hard of hearing students, and is passionate about online education because it allows families to work around each child's needs and schedule.

Julie Brown

Julie Brown Email: jbrown2@kaplan.edu | Phone: 321.327.7687 Mrs. Julie Brown holds a bachelor's degree in Conservation Biology with an emphasis in Marine Science. Mrs. Brown spent three years in Mexico and Costa Rica conducting field research with marine mammals, sea turtles, and fisheries, and in 2001, she relocated to the Keys where she lived for four years scuba diving and studying coral reef ecology. She is an expert fish identifier for REEF, a nonprofit data gathering agency, and has logged over 100 hours underwater. Mrs. Brown has taught for six years and previously headed the Science department for a marine science academy. Her hobbies include scuba diving, sea kayaking, boogie boarding, hiking, and stunt kite flying.

Teresa Barnes

Mrs. Barnes has been a high school teacher for 16 years and has taught Chemistry, Physical Science, and Physics. She truly loves working with children and watching them develop an analytical means of evaluating the world around them.

Jan Taylor

She received Secondary Teaching Credentials with endorsements in mathematics and physical, life and natural sciences at Boise State University, Boise, ID. She has lived in and enjoyed Idaho all of her life, except two years in California. Jan has taught mathematics and sciences for 17 years in a variety of Idaho school districts from very large to very small to alternative. She is thrilled to now be part of Kaplan Virtual Education where she believes that students are able to get the most out of their education virtually.

Carolyn Fitzpatrick

Mrs. Fitzpatrick has taught at both public and private high schools in Florida, and has been a teaching assistant at Florida Atlantic University and Nova Southeastern University. She believes that online education exposes students to a challenging liberal arts education while enabling them to pursue their own skills and passions. Mrs. Fitzpatrick's own passions include history, literature, cinema, and sociology.

Bonnie Bernstein

Bonnie Bernstein Email: bbernstein@kaplan.edu | Phone: 954.385.1886 Mrs. Bonnie Bernstein holds a bachelor's degree in Secondary Social Studies Education, a master's degree in Educational Leadership, and is a National Board Certified Teacher. In addition to being a certified Social Studies teacher, Mrs. Bernstein is certified in Reading (K-12), Gifted (K-12), and Exceptional Student Education (K-12). She has taught for 20 years in subjects ranging from History to Physical Education for grades 6-12, with the majority of that time spent teaching American History and Government. She has also worked with students outside the classroom as a Support Facilitator for ESE and ESOL programs. As a graduate of an online institution, Mrs. Bernstein understands the different needs of online learners and prides herself in making sure every student has the benefit of learning in a positive and nurturing environment.

Cynthia Krohn

After college, she worked for three years for a Girl Scout council in Pennsylvania. She then earned a Master of Arts in Teaching degree in Secondary Education from the University of New Hampshire with a Social Studies certification for grades 5-12. Before joining Kaplan, Cynthia taught in public schools in New Hampshire for two years, then at a small private school in Maryland for three.

Certified in Middle & High School Social Sciences, Ms. Hilliard graduated from Michigan State University, Eastern Michigan University, and obtained her master’s degree in Education, Teaching and Learning with Technology from Kaplan University. Ms. Hilliard is thrilled to be a part of the instructional team with Kaplan Virtual Education and proud to be a part of this revolutionary approach to education.

Brad Reynolds

He is also endorsed in ELL. Mr. Reynolds has taught Spanish, Latin, French and ELL at various schools since 1993. He has also taught English in Madrid, Spain. He currently teaches Spanish and Latin in a high school in Missouri. Mr. Reynolds enjoys reading, writing, playing guitar, riding motorcycles and spending time with his family.

Aimie Runyan
French Instructor

Aimie Runyan Email: arunyan@kaplan.edu | Phone: 719.387.4266 For the past eight years, Mrs. Runyan has taught French, English, and Speech and Debate for high schools in the Colorado Springs area. She has also had the privilege of coaching Forensics for the past three years. Mrs. Runyan enjoys teaching in the online environment and is very excited to work with Kaplan students. Her greatest hope as a teacher is to motivate her students to continue their study of the Francophone world after high school. She earned her M.A. in French from the University of North Texas. For her thesis work on Quebec History, she was awarded a research grant from the International Association for Quebec Studies that allowed her to spend three months researching in Quebec City and Montreal. During the course of her undergraduate studies in French at Linfield College, she has had the chance to live in Avignon. France where she took various courses through the Institute for American Universities. Upon graduation from Linfield, she won a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship that permitted her to teach English for one academic year at a High School in Bayeux, France. Mrs. Runyan lives in Fountain, Colorado with her wonderful husband Allan and their dog, Pippin.

Mrs. Stahlhut has taught junior and senior high Spanish in the public school system. She has an eagerness for teaching a foreign language. Mrs. Stahlhut believes learning a second language helps students to gain awareness and understanding for different cultures of the world.
